Stress and your mental health. How do you cope?

We are all faced with stress. Stress that steams from a multitude of daily tasks. Work, deadlines, bills, kids, relationships, fears and of course this year, the added pandemic…Covid-19.

So, how do you help cope with stress? And how does it affect your over-all health, both physically and mentally?

Here are some ways to help manage stress…..

  1. Talk about your feelings. Don’t bottle stuff up! Find someone that you are comfortable sharing your feelings with.
  2. Keep active. Whether it’s a gym, online class or just getting outside for a walk. Just MOVE!!
  3. Eat a variety of healthy, nutritious foods. Don’t become part of the “Covid-19” team.
  4. Drink in moderation. Enjoy that HH or weekend gathering, but make sure it’s not becoming a way to escape your feelings.
  5. Keep in touch. It may be difficult or even impossible during these times, but this is highly important to keep in touch with people.
  6. Ask for help. Recognize when you need help and don’t be ashamed to ask for it. We have ALL been in a low place at some point in our life!
  7. Take a break!! This can be anything from a 5 minute breather or taking a mental wellness day. Listen to your body and give it what it’s telling you that it needs. It’s okay to have, “ me time”
  8. Do something you’re good at. What did you use to enjoy doing? What activity brings you joy?
  9. Accept who you are. Feeling good about yourself boosts confidence and self-esteem. And that helps you cope when life takes a difficult turn.
  10. Care for others. This is an important part of keeping up relationships. Caring for others not only helps those you care about, but it also can be very uplifting to support someone else through a difficult time.
